Adventures in Social Drama
Drama as a format to work through life’s issues
- Club alumni Annie Mielke and Joe Parrish oversee Adventures in Social Drama
- ASD works with other local organizations, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
- Young adults form a drama troupe and give presentations to local schools
- Presentations explore how to address difficult social pressures
- Students choose which issues they want to tackle in their troupe

Art Club with Local Artist John Jannenga
Art programming aimed at affirming members’ creativity and vision
- Jannenga is a local artist and art teacher who oversees art programming at our First Christian site
- “Teen Room” 2008 project involved Club teens transforming a room at First Christian into their own space
- Teens designed the room and painted it themselves
- First Christian Club members enjoy regular painting and drawing lessons
- Members learn airbrushing techniques too
- Jannenga’s students show their artwork at the Iowa State Fair

Active engagement with community theater
- Club members receive copies of scripts for an upcoming play
- Members watch the play at Kate Goldman’s Children’s Center
