Keystone
 

Keystone Club*
Small-group teen leadership

  • Keystoners run for elected offices
  • Officers set yearly goals for community outreach projects
  • Members can go to annual BGCA Keystone Club conference

Torch

Small-group pre-teen leadership

  • Students choose their own activities to focus on
  • Our Torch Club volunteers at a local homeless shelter
  • Members enjoy arts and fitness activities together as well

Community Kids
Dedication to community service

  • Community Kids learn how to care for public property & the environment
  • Members work on city clean-up projects together



Justice League  

Justice League
Healthy perspective on the criminal justice system

  • A local judge works with our kids, educating them about the justice system
  • Justice League focuses specifically on juvenile issues
  • Club members ages 11-14 can participate

SMART Girls  

SMART Girls*
“Skills Mastery and Resistance Training”:  education and support for young girls

  • Pre-teen girls learn about:
    • Positive decision-making
    • Wellness
    • Personal health & development
    • Reproductive issues (including teen pregnancy prevention)

Passport to Manhood  

Passport to Manhood*
Character-building for pre-teen boys

  • Program focuses on positive decision-making and community involvement
  • Program teaches developmental and reproductive health
  • Boys gain sense of personal responsibility and self-esteem
  • Members receive individual “passports” for program to promote individual engagement with program content

YLI  

Youth Leadership Initiative

Opportunities to build leadership skills

  • YLI focuses on teens who have leadership potential but haven’t had the chance to develop it
  • Sessions involve experiential and interactive learning about:
    • Community issues
    • Diversity
    • Communication
  • Students meet bimonthly from August through June
  • Students plan their own YLI graduation ceremony

Community partner:  Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute


Scouts  

Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa is also a regular venue for the Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts’ respected character and leadership programming.
