  Earth Club

Earth Club is a comprehensive educational program at McCombs Club that focuses on the environmental issues we face today as well as a career exploration in Animal Science.

In 2008 Earth Club members worked in partnership with Blank Park Zoo.  Students were involved with the wetland project which focused on the study of the wetlands and native Iowa amphibian populations in keeping with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ designation of 2008 as the “Year of the Frog.”  Students in the program helped design and create interpretive wetlands activities at the Zoo that impacted over 20,000 Iowa students and teachers who visit the Zoo for field-trips as well as the other visitors at the Zoo, which number over 325,000 annually.

In 2009 we partnered with Des Moines Central Campus in exploring the Animal Science Program.  Activities included: water testing, orienteering, conservation, animal care, science experiments, Gray’s Lake hike and nature find, field trips to Jester Park and Springbrook Conservation Education Center.
